The "Oasis: MTV Unplugged" CD/DVD Campaign

In August of 1996, Oasis, riding high from the overwhelming success of their first two albums Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, were to perform on the hit MTV series Unplugged. However (as was often the case), problems arose within the band, namely between the most well known members of the group, Noel and Liam Gallagher.
An argument began between the two brothers, ultimately ending with Liam bowing out of the concert. The idea of postponing, or cancelling the show outright, was discussed, but thankfully, Noel decided to go ahead and sing lead vocals. What some initially thought of as a potential disaster ended up as a brilliant performance from Oasis sans Liam, and for the first time, gave the entire world a good look at what Noel could do.

The performance garnered a good deal of critical acclaim when the show debuted. In America, MTV's Kurt Loder introduced the premiere by saying that (with Noel singing) this was perhaps how Oasis "should've always been." A majority of the band's fans gave the show high marks, so both critically and fan-wise, Oasis "Unplugged" ended up as a bonafide (and surprising) success.

The set-list: Hello, Some Might Say, Live Forever, Listen Up, The Masterplan, Don't Look Back In Anger, Talk Tonight, Morning Glory, Round Are Way, Cast No Shadow, Whatever, and Wonderwall.

In the years since the show was initially broadcast, airings of the concert have dwindled to zero as MTV has seemingly abandoned the concept, thereby leaving fans with no further opportunity to enjoy the show unless they had recorded it off of TV for themselves. In the absence of an officially released product (only "Listen Up" has seen any kind of official release as it was featured on a compilation video), Oasis' "Unplugged" concert has been heavily bootlegged (in various shades of quality of course, and some of these bootlegs do not feature the entire show.) Naturally, fans have been clamoring for a proper release of this classic performance, one of the best ever featured on the "Unplugged" series, on both CD and DVD. Why, in the seven years since it originally aired, it has not been made available remains a mystery.
The original MTV broadcast excluded two songs, Whatever and Listen Up ideally any CD/DVD release would include these two. While a CD would contain a properly mixed version of the concert, the DVD could feature: a remastered full frame picture, a Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 sound mix, retrospective interviews with the band, and footage of the rehearsals (which Liam participated in). Such features would make fans, who've seen the show many times before, very eager to purchase a copy.
Oasis: MTV Unplugged is a concert that is long overdue for an official CD/DVD release. There is no doubt that such a venture would be profitable for both the band and their respective record labels.

The only phone number I have come across is: 1-800-255-7514, however I have not been able to get through.

You can also sign an on-line petition, which is available HERE. Add your names to the list!

I have been unable to locate a fax number so far.

Here is a banner you can add to your web site to help promote this campaign, just be sure you link it back here!

So there you have it, do one of the above (or all, it wouldn't hurt) and if enough of us speak out, we may get what we want! If you're wondering about fan-led campaigns and whether they work or not, let me assure you, they do! I have personally led internet based campaigns to get three movies released on DVD, and they ALL worked because fans worked together. One of the movies I campaigned for was The Return of the Living Dead, check out the web site I created for it HERE. It can happen if we band together and let the record companies know that there IS a market eagerly awaiting an Oasis: MTV Unplugged CD/DVD release. So what are you waiting for? Start writing!

If you have any questions or suggestions on helping this campaign, please e-mail me, Michael Allred, HERE.

This web page is dedicated to getting Oasis: MTV Unplugged released on CD and DVD. Please tell everyone you know, post the information on any relevant internet forum/newsgroup/web site and help spread the word!
